Family Guide

Thank you so much for trusting me with your family’s memories. It truly means a lot. Family is one of God’s greatest gifts, and getting to capture yours is an honor I don’t take lightly.

This guide will walk you through everything — from choosing a location to how the session will flow. Please read through it when you receive it and again a day or two before your shoot. The more prepared you are, the smoother and more fun this will be. And yes… there’s a strong chance I’ll bust out a dance move at some point.

The goal of this session is to capture your family as you really are — chaos and all. Don’t stress about perfect behavior. I work around your kids, not the other way around. We’ll get that classic smiling-at-the-camera shot, but what I’m really after is connection — the love, laughter, and moments that already exist in your home.

I especially love working with teens. Having spent 6 years in youth ministry with students in grades 6–12, I learned how to connect with young people and help them feel comfortable being themselves. That experience carries over into every senior session, creating a relaxed environment where your personality can shine.

All sessions take place in the evening for the best light, and we’ll confirm exact timing based on the season.

I’m excited to meet your people.

Let’s create something meaningful. You are loved.

Preparing your kids for our session as much as possible often takes the timidness out of the evening. Let them know what we will be doing the moment we book our session if they are unfamiliar with having their pictures taken during a professional family session. Let them know we are going to have fun, play games, tell jokes. Talk to them about me as if I am a friend so that they see you are comfortable with me, this usually helps them feel comfortable as well. Don't worry about telling them to smile during our session, some kids who have been coached to smile for the photographer get so nervous that they are fighting to laugh, relaxing and being their true selves. But I promise you that letting me get them to smile genuinely will make you the happiest when you see your final result. If I need your help to let them loosen up, I’ll let you know!

I’m a huge fan of bribery - (ice cream after!) is always a great idea for the ones who need a little extra encouragement. Treats during the session are totally ok! Just please make sure they won't leave their face messy. Skittles and gummy candy are always great but try and stay away from anything that has crumbs or chocolate.

High schoolers, this one’s for you.

If you’re coming to this session because your parents made you… I see you!

Listen, I’ve worked in ministry with 6th–12th graders for the past 6 years. I know how to talk to you without it being weird. I know when to joke, when to hype you up, and when to just let you be yourself. You don’t have to fake a smile or act like someone you’re not.

You’re not “just there” for family pictures. You matter in this season, and I want your personality to show up in these photos, whether that’s laid-back, sarcastic, quiet, athletic, artsy, or too cool for all of this.

We’ll keep it quick. We’ll keep it natural. And I promise it won’t be awkward.

And who knows… you might actually leave thinking, “Okay, that wasn’t bad.”

(Husbands usually skip this part)

Is your husband not exactly counting down the days until photos? Totally normal. Honestly, I expect it at this point 😅 He already knows this matters to you, that’s why he’s showing up. Just remind him it’s not going to be awkward or painful.

I keep things super relaxed. No stiff posing. No standing there smiling for 45 minutes straight. I guide you into natural moments so it never feels forced and yes, the adults usually end up having just as much fun as the kids.

More times than I can count, I get messages from moms afterward saying, “He actually said that wasn’t bad at all.” I’ve even had dads be the ones saying, “We should do that again next year.”

And honestly? When dad is the one reminding mom to rebook — that’s a win.

Trust me. I’ve got him. 🤝

Moms, Let’s be honest…

You’re usually the one making family photos happen. You found the photographer, picked the outfits, coordinated schedules, and made sure everyone actually shows up. That’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work.

So when the session starts, you get to breathe a little.

You don’t need to stress about perfect behavior or making sure everyone is smiling the entire time. Kids will be kids and honestly, those real moments are usually the best ones. Laughing, running around, big hugs, a little chaos… that’s real life, and that’s what makes these photos meaningful.

Your only job is to enjoy your family in the moment. Love on your kids, pull them close, laugh with them. I’ll guide everything else and capture the moments as they naturally unfold.

And moms, don’t forget, you belong in these photos too. Years from now, your kids will look back and see how much they were loved in this season of life.

So relax, trust the process, and let’s create something really special together.
